Training

Different from the pack

The goal of dog training might seem simple: helping your dog learn how to be a good boy or girl

It might come as a surprise that training your dog isn’t just about instilling manners to produce a polite, happy, confident companion. Sure, knowing how to sit, stay, and come when called are vital, but it’s far more important to preserve your growing bond with your dog by using dog-friendly, expert-backed techniques.

Balanced dog training teaches a dog desired behaviours using both reward-based techniques and fair corrections which the dog will be introduced to once it associates a behaviour with a command. The intent of the correction is not to punish the dog, but rather to change the dog's behaviour.

We use the balanced training method. We use primarily positive reinforcement, however there may be circumstances where the use of a training tool may be considered effective for teaching your dog a new behaviour or stopping an unwanted one. Some of the training tools we may use include harnesses, slip leads, martingale collars, training collars, and in rare instances we have received special training to use an e-collar. Before any tool is used on your dog your trainer will explain what the tool is, why we are suggesting it, how it is used safely, and gain your permission. If at any point you have given consent to use a tool and wish to withdraw consent, you may. No tool will be used on your dog without your express permission. - Training clients are often given homework exercises to practice between sessions. It is your responsibility to undertake these. If you require any assistance or further explanation, it is your responsibility to get in touch with your trainer. We aim to respond within 24 hours to any client contact. - Where required and practicable we will provide training exercise information in written format or provide example videos. You may be charged for the development of a written training plan. This will be discussed prior to being sent to you.
